Dogs for Defense: K-9 Corps

At a time when every American was asked to make sacrifices for the American war effort, World War II marked the establishment of Dogs for Defense, a program to which families donated their pet dogs to serve in the U.S. military. These four-legged recruits were transformed through training from loving pets into working troops. Students participate in fun activities to learn about the ideal breeds chosen to best fulfill the duties needed to serve in the K-9 Corps.

Boyhood Home Project Complete

In February, the Eisenhower Foundation invited its Friends of the Foundation to campus for an exclusive sneak peek of the completed Eisenhower Boyhood Home project. The Home had been closed for tours while undergoing a months-long preservation project, which included a comprehensive exterior restoration along with several maintenance and aesthetic updates to the home’s interior.

Ike's Fountain to be Restored

In honor of the 70th anniversary of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first term as President of the United States, the Eisenhower Foundation received a matching gift opportunity. If we could raise $50,000 by March 31st, the funds would be matched dollar-for-dollar by an estate gift given through the Community Foundation of Dickinson County (Abilene, KS) and an anonymous Kansas donor.

Thanks to supporters from across the country, we surpassed this goal, raising over $100,000! These meaningful contributions reflect the deep commitment our donors have to Ike’s legacy.
