Event Description
After World War II, Americans enjoyed increasing prosperity. This included the rise of a new technology, television. As more and more homes turned to television as a source of entertainment, politicians were forced to make decisions about how to use this new medium. Dwight Eisenhower led the way by embracing television as a means of communicating his ideas to the voters. His success convinced others of the importance of television in politics as Eisenhower became a “TV President.” Students will analyze and compare campaign ads from 1952 & 1956, as well as how television has impacted Presidential campaigns into present times. A follow up activity will give students an opportunity to create their own campaign ad.
