Biography
Gilmore Lescalleet Jr. was born in Fredrick, MD to Gilmore and Regine (Haller) Lescalleet. Lescalleet was drafted in 1942, entered into the Army Air Corps and served in the Medical Service unit. Lescalleet received a commendation for superior proficiency during training. Lescalleet was stationed around the United States and eventually was shipped to Okinawa. He was their when the bombs were dropped on Japan. After the war, he began a 31 year career with the Peoples Life Insurance Company in Washington, DC where he served as a department manager until his retirement in 1977. Lascallett returned home with an official "Ike" Jacket. He and his jacket were featured in an Ike's Insights (the Eisenhower Foundation newsletter) in 2019.
