Since the passing of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1969, the Eisenhower Foundation has honored his legacy with an annual wreath-laying ceremony at the Place of Meditation, his final resting place in Abilene, Kansas, on his birthday, October 14. This long-standing tradition serves as a reflection of the profound respect and admiration for the 34th president, commemorating his remarkable contributions to the nation.

With the completion of the Eisenhower Memorial in Washington D.C., this gesture of tribute has been extended to include the nation’s capital. Each year, an honorary wreath is delivered to the Eisenhower Memorial, further symbolizing the widespread admiration for his leadership. In 2023, the wreath — a striking display of patriotism — was placed near the stone that commemorates Ike’s 1945 Homecoming Speech in Abilene, an iconic moment from his return after leading the Allied forces to victory in World War II.

This expanded tradition now connects two important locations, uniting Eisenhower’s Kansas roots with the national stage, ensuring that his legacy continues to be celebrated in a meaningful way.
