Biography
Simon enlisted into the U.S. Army when he was 21 years old; his induction was at Fort Crook, Nebraska on July 2, 1941. He received his machine gunner qualification on August 8, 1941, and appointed Technician 5th grade on July 10, 1942. Simon received an honorable discharge on September 13, 1943, while serving in the 83rd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Company A, 3rd Armored Division, located at Camp Polk, Louisiana.
