Vincent C. “Steve” Paparteys

As a Tech4 Sergeant in the 1st Division, 18th Infantry during WWII, Steve participated in the French, Belgian and German campaigns seeing action from North Africa and Italy, to Germany, Czechoslovakia and France. He landed on Omaha Beach with the Fighting First on D-Day among actions in other areas of the European Theater. He was wounded in Gela, Sicily earning the Purple Heart when he suffered shrapnel wounds and had his hearing permanently damaged from a shell explosion. He served at Ft. Hamilton (Brookyln), Ft. Devens (Massachusetts), Camp Blanding (Florida) and Fort Indiantown Gap (Pennsylvania) prior to his overseas service. During his prestigious service, he earned many Army awards including the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the French Fourragère and the State of New York Conspicuous Service Cross. He separated in 1945 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
