Biography

Walter DeHoff registered for service 17 Dec 1942 and likely went on active duty in Jan 1943, enlisting in the Army Air Corps. Walter served with the 423 Bomb Squadron, 306th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, stationed at RAF Thurleigh in England. A ball/turret gunner on B-17 43-38019, the Milk Run Special, Staff Sergeant DeHoff was returning from a bombing mission over Kassel, Germany on 15 Dec 1944 when his plane collided with another B-17 during inclement weather near Greenham Common, England.
