Biography

James Nagely was born near Detroit, KS on 10/1/1923. His family moved to a farm south of Carlton, KS and he continued to live in the area and attended Chapman schools, graduating with the class of 1941. Nagely entered McPherson college and achieved scholastic recognition and became assistant to Dr. J Willard Hershey a noted chemistry instructor. Nagely was the managing editor of the Spectator college paper and had great music ability. In January of 1944, his draft notice came. He entered the Army 8/03/1944 receiving his basic training at Camp Hood, Tx and left the US in January for overseas combat. Nagely was assigned to Company I, 27th infantry, 25th division who had been fighting in many locations in the south Pacific. Nagely was a rifleman on the rugged Carabello mountains.
