BIOGRAPHY

Albert Arthur Hlaus was born in Wilson, Kansas on January 21, 1919 to Joseph and Anna (Vopat) Hlaus. Albert attended Wilson Public Schools and graduated in 1937. Learning a strong work ethic from his Czechoslovakian immigrant grandparents, and from his parents, Albert worked on his father's 800 acre farm near Wilson. Albert entered the service September 5, 1941 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. After being stationed at Camp Grant, Illinois; Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Denver, Colorado; and Ft. McDowell, California, Albert was sent to the Pacific Theatre. Albert's military duty was that of Chief Medical Clerk where he supervised eleven men in the preparation of records pertaining to diagnosis and treatment of patients at an Army hospital. He was responsible for all the administrative work for this section. While stationed in Hawaii, Albert was fortunate to see and spend time with his brother, Emil, who was also serving the in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge at Ft. Leaven worth on October 9, 1945, Albert returned home to Wilson and continued his farming operation. He married Mary Soukup Rezac on November 18, 1957 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wilson. Albert died July 11, 2002.
