BIOGRAPHY

Roscoe "Cocky" Lewis was born in Sheldon, MO on September 29,1907 and moved to the Barber County town of Kiowa KS as a young child. He graduated in 1926 from Kiowa High School and he worked with his brother Roy at Lewis Motors, a car business. They operated Lewis Motor Company for forty years.

Mr. Lewis enlisted in the Army Air Corps in November of 1942 and was deployed to the Pacific region serving in New Guinea, Australia and the Philippine Islands. He attended the National School of Aeronautics and was a machinist in the 15th Dep Repair Squadron making aircraft parts. He received the American Theater Ribbon: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze star: Philippine Liberation Ribbon: Good Conduct medal: and Victory Medal (World War II). Following Sgt. Lewis' discharge in December of 1945 he built a new garage building in Kiowa and Lewis Motor Company resumed operation selling first Kaisers, then Mercurys and Pontiacs. During their last 15 years in business, they were Buick and Chevrolet Dealers.

On December 25, 1946, he married Mary Corrine Woodard, A daughter, Mary Lynn was born December 29, 1947. Mr. Lewis had a n active retirement doing welding and studiting (hard surfacing) on farm implements up until his death in 1990 at 82 years of age. He is survived by his daughter Mary Lynn McGee, her two sons Greg and Chris McGee and their families.
