BIOGRAPHY

William Sevic was born in Youngstown, OH but moved with his family at age 2 to Grand Rapids MI. He went to school at the St. Peter and Paul's Catholic School to the 9th grade. He then began working until he was 17 yrs old. He wanted to enlist in the Navy but his folks did not want him to so he enlisted in the Army and was drafted when he turned 18. He served at Fort Brady, guarding the locks until he was  stationed in Europe. Sevic was stationed in London and guarded the 1st Army headquarters until moving on to Busy Park and guarded General Eisenhower's headquarters. He saw all the Generals coming and going and occasionally his post included checking credentials. Around July of 1944 his platoon crossed to Normandy and set up camp. This camp was where Eisenhower stayed when he was in Normandy. Sevic and his platoon followed Eisenhower across Europe guarding him where ever he stayed. The platoon's duties including guarding Eisenhower through the night and once Sevic's gun slipped off his lap making a ruckus but it did not wake the General. Sevic returned to Michigan and worked his whole career in a company that made bumpers. He was married to Harriet for 50 years and they had a family together.
