S/SGT Knott was a Top Turret Gunner on a B-24 called, "Flak Magnet," serial number 41-3=29373. On August 6, 1944, this B-24 Bomber failed to return to base after a mission. The plane reportedly was hit by flak and crashed at Hamburg, Germany. S/SGT Knott, then 25 years old, was made a Prisoner of War. There is no further information found until 1950 when Leslie Knott is listed among the survivors in the obituary for his brother, Pfc. Walter Dean Knott, who was killed in action in North Korea on November 27, 1950.
