Frank York was the youngest son of eight children. He was born July 1, 1926 in Baldwin, KS and grew up through the great depression on his father's farm. He met his wife in December 1943 and they married February 1944. He was only 17 at the time, fudging on his age in order to have a chance with his future wife. Frank enlisted in the army when he turned 18 and his son Verne was born while he was in basic training. The pacific was where Frank landed under General MacArthur. His marksmanship was so impressive he was made a point man for his platoon. Frank reached the rank of Sergeant before the war ending in 1945 and was discharged in 1946.
