Francis P.Klataske (Gunners Mate 3rd class) was serving as a member of the armed guard on the Merchant Vessel SS Nortun (serial #3425338) in the South Atlantic. Our uncle lost his life when the Nortun was hit by two torpedoes from a German submarine on March 20, 1943. The vessel sank quickly. We should never forget the terrific sacrifice these kids made for us and our country. Francis will forever be our hero.
