Grades K-12th

Boyhood Home and Burial Site

Tours inside the home have a limited availability and are by reservation only. If reservations cannot be obtained, an IKEducator will provide primary source photographs and maps along with additional information outside the home. This encourages students to imagine life for “Little Ike” and his family in the early years of the 20th-century.

Called the “Place of Meditation,” students will visit the final resting place of Ike, Mamie, and their first son. An IKEducator will provide more information about the funeral ceremonies for President Eisenhower that brought the world to Abilene’s doorstep.

This video provides an overview of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s life. It is shown in the Visitors Center, which is located on the site of the former Lincoln Elementary School where “Little Ike” attended grade school.

Students will learn about — and try their hands at — the test that applicants for U.S. citizenship must pass as part of the naturalization process.

What’s Behind the Marble?

As part of the National Archives, the Eisenhower Presidential Library preserves and protects American history. An archivist will introduce students to what is behind the library’s marble walls.

Marine One

Did you know Ike was the first U.S. President to travel by helicopter? This transformed presidential travel by allowing the president to land and depart directly from the White House grounds. Students will get hands-on with the basic aerodynamics that cause rotary blades to lift helicopters. 

Grades 7-12

Ike’s Work

Centered around Eisenhower’s own list of top Administration accomplishments, this temporary museum exhibit showcases relevant letters written to the President by American citizens.

We the People

The American flag is made of many individual stars, stripes, and colors that together represent one united nation. In this IKEtivity, each student will create one unique “piece” of the flag, demonstrating how individual contributions can come together to create something far greater than any one person could accomplish alone. Students’ finished pieces will be used in an art installation in our upcoming Education Center!
