Kramer entered the Army in Sept. 1940 and served as an enlisted soldier until he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, Signal Corps in March 1943 after attending OCS. He served with the 4th Infantry Division from July 1943 to February 1945 first as the communications officer for the 4th Recon. Troop, and later as a Recon. Platoon Leader from September 1944 – February 1945. He attended an Infantry Officer Course in the Spring of 1945 in Europe, and was then assigned to 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, as the Battalion Communications Officer. He was relieved from Active Duty in Dec. 1945 but was recalled to active duty in 1947 and retired as a Major in the Army Security Agency in May 1962. Thereafter he worked for the National Security Agency and then the NASA-Marshall Space Flight Center as a Computer Systems Analyst until his death in August 1974.
