Biography
Technician Fourth Grade (T-4) Karl F. Nelson was in the 743 Tank Battalion and fought with the 3rd Infantry Division in the 9th Army. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge for action in France on D-Day. The tank battalion headed the assault on Normandy Beach and fought for 16 hours against overwhelming enemy fire. The tank battalion was attached to the First Infantry Division.
