Biography

Clyde O. Smith son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd A. Smith, was inducted into the Army on January 16, 1941. He was stationed at Camp Funston, Fort Riley, Kansas, until December 31, 1941, then was transferred to Tucson, Arizona. There, he guarded the big main railroad bridges and airport. In March of that year, he was moved to Nogales, Arizona, to patrol the border of Mexico. On August 26, 1941, he went on the maneuvers in Arkansas and Louisiana then returned to his troop in Ft. Riley on October 6. His troop was mounted on horses but they converted into a “jeep” troop. He saw a lot of the United States during this service time. The rest of his time in the service is unknown.
