Veterans Day: Free Admission All Day

Monday, November 11, 2019

World War I ended on November 11, 1918, and that date was long observed as Armistice Day. President Eisenhower signed legislation 65 years ago, in 1954, "to expand the significance of Armistice Day and to change its name to Veterans Day ... in order that a grateful nation ... may pay proper homage to all its veterans ..." On that first Veterans Day, November 11, 1954, President Eisenhower was in Abilene, Kansas, for the formal dedication of the Eisenhower Museum. The museum was originally built as a memorial to all veterans, at Ike's insistence, and later became his Presidential Museum. Last month, the museum was rededicated following a complete renovation. This Veterans Day, we invite the public to enjoy free admission to the Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home to pay homage to General Eisenhower and all who served in World War II, and to remember and honor all members of the United States Military.
