Evenings at Ease: "20 Years in the Secret Service: My Life with Five Presidents"

Tuesday, October 8, 2019

While researching her parents' lives to write their story, Rebecca Youngblood Vaughn rediscovered the treasure-trove of mementos from her father's 20-year tenure as a Secret Service Agent, which inspired her to publish a new edition of his memoir, "20 Years in the Secret Service: My Life with Five Presidents." Vaughn will talk about her father, Rufus Wayne Youngblood, who is best known as the U.S. Secret Service agent who shielded Vice President Johnson during the tragic Kennedy assassination. Youngblood served with the Eighth Air Force in World War II, earned an industrial engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and joined the Secret Service in 1951. He protected Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon during his career. He retired in 1971 as the agency’s deputy director and returned to Georgia with his family until his death in 1996. This event is free and open to the public courtesy of the Friends of the Eisenhower Foundation.
