  2. "Eisenhower's Middle Road" Exhibit at Central Kansas City Public Library

    January 23, 2019, 9:00 AM - May 24, 2019, 5:00 PM @ Central Kansas City Public Library

Dwight D. Eisenhower’s leadership style as president reflected his practical, level-headed Midwestern roots: Work from the middle to accomplish what those on the extremes saw as impossible. The exhibit, "Eisenhower’s Middle Road," spotlights a prescription for peace and prosperity that guided Ike throughout his eight years in the White House. He sought balance for America—the pursuit and preservation of social gains, for instance, while refraining from government overreach. The exhibit in the Central Kansas City Public Library’s Rocky and Gabriella Mountain Gallery explores six key areas reflecting that approach. The exhibit was produced by the archival and curatorial staff of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene, Kansas, and is presented in partnership with the Central Kansas City Public Library. This exhibit is funded by a grant to the Eisenhower Foundation from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City, Missouri.

Public Programs

  1. Mother's Day Tea - with William Snyder, Curator, Eisenhower Presidential Museum

    May 11, 2019, 11:00 AM @ Library Courtyard

Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum Curator, William Snyder, knows everyone loves Mamie. He will present an entertaining program on well-known hat designer Sally Victor, clearly one of Mamie's favorite designers as we have a number of her hats in our collection. A special display showcasing some of our favorites will be exhibited for this occasion. The newspaper clipping shown here from 1954 announces "Mamie Chooses a Fall Hat Wardrobe" designed by Sally Victor. The three hats featured are described as "a small gray jersey flat pillbox embroidered in yarn, with a pair of tiny red felt wings on top; a soft, dusty pink velvet draped turban; and a simple breton of snowy white mink." Invite your moms, grandmas, daughters, and girlfriends to enjoy light refreshments, delicious teas and a fun program. Boys are welcome! Reservations are required by May 6. Purchase tickets for $20 each via the link at right or mail a check to the Eisenhower Foundation, PO Box 295, Abilene, KS 67410.
