  1. Lunch and Learn: Eisenhower Baseball Controversy, with Mark Eberle

    August 23, 2018, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM @ Visitors Center Auditorium

Did Dwight Eisenhower play professional baseball before he went to West Point? Historians have debated the question for more than 60 years. The August Lunch and Learn will feature baseball historian Mark Eberle discussing his research on this controversial subject. His monograph, "Eisenhower, Wilson and Professional Baseball in Kansas" is available free and online at https://works.bepress.com/mark-eberle. Eberle has taught in the Department of Biological Sciences at Fort Hays State University for more than 20 years, and has co-written books including "Kansas Fishes." He has been interested in baseball since playing the game as a young boy in his Olathe, Kansas, neighborhood. Eberle's recently published book, "Kansas Baseball, 1858-1941," is available for purchase in the Eisenhower Presidential Library gift shop. This program is free, thanks to the Eisenhower Foundation's Stars & Stripes sponsors. A light lunch will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
