  1. "The Thin Red Line" - World War II film series

    June 10, 2018, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Visitors Center Auditorium

The World War II film series continues with "The Thin Red Line," a 1998 epic war film based on the James Jones novel of 1962. The movie tells a fictionalized version of a battle in the Guadalcanal campaign; the exhausting fight for a strategically-positioned airfield in the Solomon Islands in 1942-43 in an attempt to seize the island from the Japanese. For the author, who served at Guadalcanal, the "thin red line" stood for the infantry, but it was also the line that separated the sane from the mad. Several big stars had roles in this film, including John Travolta, George Clooney, Sean Penn, John Cusack, Adrien Brody, James Caviezel, Woody Harrelson and Nick Nolte. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards.
