IKEducation D-Day Hands on History Tables: "Omaha Beach and Wally Strobel," SHAEF Patch, "Flat Ike"

Saturday, June 1, 2019

Bring your family early on Saturday, June 1, for some fun with history. The Eisenhower Foundation's IKEducation staff will offer two activity stations under the portico of the Museum entrance. Table 1, for middle to secondary grades, will provide exploration of D-Day artifacts from Omaha Beach and the 101st Airborne. Students can even step into the iconic photo of Ike talking to paratroopers just prior to the invasion. Table 2, for elementary and intermediate grades, will provide exploration and activities with the shoulder patch insignia used by SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force) and many of the U.S. troop divisions who fought on D-Day. Kids will also have the opportunity to grab their cameras and participate in a “Flat Ike” activity that familiarizes them with the iconic statue of General Eisenhower and several other features on the Eisenhower Presidential Center’s campus.
