Movie: "Operation Petticoat," Paul H. Royer Film Series

Thursday, March 14, 2019

During World War II, a commander (Cary Grant) finds himself stuck with a decrepit - and pink - submarine. Determined to make his injured ship seaworthy again, his con-man executive officer (Tony Curtis) wheels and deals to reach that goal. They find a stranded group of Army nurses and must take them aboard. Grant and Curtis are a dynamite team in this comedy. This 1959 film was directed by Blake Edwards and includes plenty of humorous gags. Nominated for one Academy Award. Also starring Joan O'Brien, Dina Merrill, Gene Evans, Dick Sargent, Gavin MacLeod, and Marion Ross. The 28th annual Paul H. Royer Film Series features Academy Award nominated films from the 1950s. The film series is sponsored by Robert H. (Hank) Royer, Jr., in memory of his grandfather, who was an Abilene High School classmate of Dwight D. Eisenhower and founding member of the Eisenhower Foundation. The film is free and open to the public.
