Ike Book TALK: "The Gardens of Kyoto" by Kate Walbert

Tuesday, May 14, 2019

Ellen inherits a book, "The Gardens of Kyoto," when her favorite cousin Randall dies on Iwo Jima. Her story becomes a mesmerizing exploration of the interplay of love and loss as the story unfolds. This discussion will be led by Dennis Etzel, Jr., who teaches English at Washburn University. The 2019 Ike Book TALK series is marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day by exploring some of the lesser known stories of World War II. Talk About Literature in Kansas (TALK) is presented by Humanities Kansas in partnership with the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and the Abilene Public Library. The TALK program is for every Kansas who loves to read and discuss good books. Books in the series can be checked out of the Abilene Public Library and are also available for purchase at the Eisenhower Presidential Library gift shop.
